Dale Chihuly vs the anti-art tea baggers – Another Bouncing Ball
Are the quibbles over converting a small amount of public space into private in Seattle not equivalent to when Trump announced he wanted to build towers in the middle of Central Park so the park would be landscaping?

I know this is a baited trap, but I can’t resist. Yes! This is easily a thousand times as ugly as Anish’s proposal for London, and No! this is not quibbling.
Public space is dear in Seattle, because there is so little of it. I am one of the few defenders of Gehry’s Experience museum – ROCK ON Seattle you got a baby blue Bilbao! But not Dale, he’s the worst. Whenever I picture him in my mind’s eye he is fat and bald and pink, and wearing a sweat soaked headband huffing to keep up with a twenty year old girlfriend on a jog around Lake Union. This would be worst then the Hammering Man some jerks planted across the street from the Lusty Lady.

Well, as you know, that anecdote came directly from your comment on my facebook page about Anish’s proposal. This Chihuly thing promises to be exceptionally awful. Hackett wrote in her comments that it would cost the public nothing and bring in over $500,000 a year though, which may sweeten a bowl full of bitters. The question is will Chihuly simply beget more Chihuly? There’s no point in bringing in that kind of cash if it’s only going to be directed towards more crap.
