Intervals: Ryan Gander
Date: Friday, October 1st 2010 – Sunday, January 9th 2011
Venue: Guggenheim, 1071 5th Avenue
Known for his meticulously detailed projects, Gander brings the feud between artists Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg to life in a sit-specific installation for the Gueggenheim’s Reading Room. Gander imagines the artists crashing through a stained glass window in a violent struggle and fills the room with debris from the accident. A little on the dramatic side, this piece could read either as a theatrical scene, or as a hilariously bad historical reenactment, a la the History Channel. It’s worth a visit to find out.
