Shifting the Gaze: Painting and Feminism
Date: Sunday, September 12th 2010Saturday, January 30th 2010
Venue: Jewish Museum, 1109 Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street

Feminism is in the air. The Jewish Museum’s Shifting the Gaze: Painting and Feminism comes hot on the heels of MoCA’s 2007 traveling exhibition, WACK! Art and Feminist Revolution, and serves as a prelude to Helen Molesworth’s exploration of Feminism in the 80’s for the ICA in Boston. The show adds to the work WACK! began, specifically highlighting the influence of feminist practice on the styles and methods of painting from the 1960’s on. The show is primarily drawn from the WACK! collection.
