New Granting Opportunities in the Arts: A Blade of Grass Launches

Good news for artists frustrated by the realities of poverty imposed upon them. The new philanthropic organization A Blade of Grass will give two grants of $35,000 in unrestricted funds to New York-based artists who make work that actively engages contexts outside the gallery. The online application will be launched in October, with a deadline of January 9th.

Also, those in field of development will be pleased to know they also offer one grant in the amount of $50,000 to a non-profit visual arts institution that is creating new audiences, purposes, and distribution channels for contemporary art. Organizations with fiscal sponsors are not eligible. That deadline is December 16th.

These deadlines are a couple months away, so while you’re prepping materials, why not check out the A Blade of Grass blog. It’s authored by the organization’s Executive Director, Deborah Fisher, who some of us old time-y bloggers know from her more active blogging days four years ago. It’s good to see her back.
