Working in partnership with local galleries, national institutions and an international network of curatorial partners, United Photo Industries is building Photoville — a unique, large-scale, photographic village built from more than 40 freight containers in the heart of Brooklyn Bridge Park, at the Pier 3 Uplands. For a taste of what’s to come, visit photovillenyc.org.

This free and open-to-the-public photo destination will create an interactive space for artists and art lovers alike to enjoy a unique experience of photography. Photoville aims to celebrate photography in all its forms and across all levels, bridging the community that photography creates.

Throughout the weekends, Photoville will feature a mix of curated exhibitions, lectures, hands-on workshops, special demos and nighttime projections. At the center of the village will be a beer garden and picnic area, a photographic greenhouse installation, as well as a dog park for visitors to gather, reflect and chat.

And to top it all off, United Photo Industries has joined forces with Photo District News and Brooklyn Bridge Park to curate and produce “The Fence” — a 1,000-foot-long public photographic installation cutting a vibrant swath along the Brooklyn waterfront, with an expected audience of more than 300,000 visitors during the summer of 2012.

Photographers of all levels are invited to submit images that capture the essence of “community.” For information on the jury and prizes, and to submit, please visit: photoville.nielsencontests.com.
