Pharrell Williams’ ARTST TLK Will Debut on YouTube

by Corinna Kirsch on October 8, 2012 Newswire

Gallery Girls has ended, leaving us with a chunk of free time. Thanks to YouTube, we might have a new time-waster: Pharrell Williams’ ARTST TLK. Yes, that Pharrell Williams. The hip-hop Renaissance man—and artist in his own right—has launched an all-art talk show on Reserve Channel, one of the latest YouTube-spawned corporate channels. We took notice when we saw that Pharrell would be interviewing David Salle; other than street artist KAWS and author Ben Mezrich, the other guests have yet to be announced.

If the preview is any indication of what’s in store, it looks like vowels won’t be the only thing missing from the show; the production looks very sparse, featuring just Pharrell, his guests, and a table. Of course, we can’t pass a verdict until the show debuts on October 24th, but here’s our favorite cliched exchange so far, between Pharrell Williams and and Ben Mezrich:

Ben Mezrich: You know, there’s that fine line between creativity and just mania. I think if I wasn’t a writer, I’d be a neurotic, strange person that people would want to stay away from. It’s like harnessing your OCD.

Pharrell Williams: Harnessing my OCD? That’s genius!

The artist-as-neurotic standard? We hope it gets better than that.
