It’s a good day for people interested in sex films and anti-pornography propaganda. Today, Vdrome releases Lawrence Weiner’s “Water in Milk Exists“, a piece in which people fuck, talk, and embrace. It depicts sex as normal and commonplace, at times so forcefully that the point is made absurd: Try thinking about normalcy while watching Weiner poetry arrows levied at someone sucking a dick. That same scene asks viewers to watch blow job footage while listening to someone playing patty-cake, and a woman giggling about how there’s a leprechaun on her stomach telling her what to do.
In a bizarre coincidence, this release coincided with that of “Perversion for Profit” at The Public Domain Review, a 1965 propaganda film that espouses pretty much the opposite point of view. Financed by Charles Keating and narrated by news reporter George Putnam, the film pushes forward the belief that sexually explicit materials corrupt the minds of youth and readers. It even goes so far to link sex movies as part of the Communist conspiracy.

Call me traditional, but how are people continuing to get away with pornography-as-art? Do these people think if they film an orgy and plug in pieces of kitschy metaphysical conflict then they have made art?
