In case you missed it, here’s what we had to say about the art fairs last week. NADA won this year’s Staff Pick, but Pulse and Cutlog weren’t half bad.
- Frieze Fair Bingo!, a guide to the latest trends, such as “shiny stuff”, “corporate art”, and “boots”.
- Pulse is Back!: Paddy Johnson reports that, thanks to new director Helen Toomer, Pulse has begun picking up the pieces.
- NADA New York in Images: in our slideshow and commentary of NADA New York, we find beautiful Moroccan rugs, the Hole’s bodega gallery, and Pikachu riding in Shoot the Lobster’s sportscar.
- A Night at the Fair: Al’s Grand Hotel (1971) with Public Fiction (2014): guest writer David Matorin finds a nugget of insight, and history, at the Frieze Fair.
- NADA New York: Still the City’s Best Art Fair: NADA may get less foot traffic than other fairs, but the conversations always run deeper.
- Jonathan Monk: All the Possible Combinations of Legs Kicking: Paddy makes a GIF from Frieze.
- The Downtown Fair is Not a Downtown Fair: Naked celebrity paintings, Ed Ruscha, and champagne are all okay, but only in moderation.
- Frieze New York in Images: We finally got a professional photographer to cover the fair with us. For once, the site looks great.
- Cutlog, a Glimpse of a Better Art World: Cutlog opts out from the competitive, high-end showcase and supports artists, making it a far more pleasant experience (for me, at least).
- Frieze New York, a Big Fair with Little to Say: Paddy Johnson and Corinna Kirsch were not alone in the belief that this year, Frieze looked more formulaic than ever.
