In hindsight, family sitcoms were really abrasive. Jaimie Warren’s brand-new show “B.A.L.F”– aka, “Benign Alien Life Form”, and a takeoff on “Alf”– doesn’t make us nostalgic for the past, but it does poke around into some of the weirder shit that’s normalized through pop culture. Jaimie Warren stars alongside the Danner Family, who take lots and lots of abuse, with really unforgiving laugh tacks. And then it just turns into Lionel Richie’s “Hello”, among other memorably weird TV moments. It’s awesome. For comparison:

Seems indebted to Tim and Eric. Is it better than Just Three Boyz?
The style is definitely a similar 80s riff, but Tim and Eric is smoother and hangs more on the punchlines, IMO. This feels more like a series of portraits to me, like Warren’s photos and Mike Kelley’s Extracurricular Activity Reconstructions
