I’ve grabbed these two GIFs by Nicolas Sassoon from Prosthetic Knowledge; they’re essentially blog sized GIFs the blog made from Sassoon’s massive GIF depicting his studio space. The grays, blacks, blues etc you see above are mixed using methods from the 1980s, before the advent of 8-bit color. At the time, intermediate colors could only be mimicked through specific patterns of the four, eight, or sixteen colors directly available.
This is an incredibly impressive GIF. The only way to view it in its entirety is to scroll over it. It’s the virtual equivalent of having to walk around a room to experience the space.
This work was commissioned by Opening Times, a non-profit space dedicated to showing online only works. If this is typical of what they commission, someone needs to give this place more money. More of this, please.
