Philadelphia’s well loved TheArtBlog announced today that Co-Founder and Editor Libby Rosof will retire from daily operations. The blog will continue to be helmed by co-founder Roberta Fallon.

Rosof will continue to have an active presence on blog’s board, overseeing the non-profit’s upcoming web redesign, but for me, this is a sad day. When I founded Art F City in 2005, they were a model to me—at just two years of age (TheArtBlog was founded in 2003), they were the establishment. To this day, their posts are co-authored “Roberta and Libby”, many of them overflowing with enthusiasm for art. Thanks to their blog, they’ve introduced thousands of art lovers to exhibitions and artists around the city. It’s a pleasure to read the thoughts of people so obviously invested in their community; an effective reminder of the value positive thinking.

My hope for Rosof retirement is that I see more, not less of her around Philly and New York. It’s been several years since I’ve run into Rosof—the last time was just outside a Matthew Day Jackson show in Chelsea several years ago. She was grinning from ear to ear thanks to the show. Ideally, that’s what art does—it gives you joy.
