Corinna: What name are we going to give to these sleek cyborg-alien creatures by Kytten Janae, a legit Tumblr artist?
Dylan: Twisted-rainbow body horror? Happy-go-lucky body horror? Trip-space-Cronen-cyborgian neon-tinted body horror? Slick, psychedelic neon-cyborg torture? Cyborgian torture puppets? Neon torture dolls?
Corinna: Okay, let’s go back one step here. Kytten Janae’s Tumblr consists almost entirely of eyeless humanoids suffering, vomiting, sometimes vomiting into each other, or, as we can see here, a humanoid choking him or herself. But all these creatures are really colorful, as if to say, “Hey, choking myself isn’t so bad.”
Anyway, there is so much obsession to Kytten Janae’s work, that she can keep on churning out eyeless creature after eyeless creature….
Dylan: Yes, while these humanoid bodies are painfully distorted, they’re still playful. Like there’s a joy that comes from vomiting up the colors of the rainbow.
Another thing: The design of the figures reminds me of Francoise Gamma’s humanoid GIFs. But less abstract and more sadistic.
Corinna: Ooohh. And I didn’t even think about this until now, but Gamma’s best GIFs show a complete melting of bodies—unlike Janae’s always-lonely bodies.
