The Best of Laurie Anderson (on Youtube)

by Paddy Johnson on April 13, 2015 Events

I dedicated most of last week to watching Laurie Anderson videos on youtube while doing my work. She’s incredible. A few highlights below. No commentary today, unfortunately. I’ve got a world of installation ahead of me.

Why is Lou Reed so successful. His ability to tell the truth.

Okay, I can’t resist commenting here: Laurie Anderson gives a commencement speech to SVA students. In it, she talks about how it’s a good time to be an artist and how important it is to put your art first. The rent, she says will take care of itself (we’ll have to agree to disagree here.) My favorite bits in this speech is her account of being NASA’s first (and last) resident artist. Also, the closing line: Welcome to the art world.
