Eroticism seems to be in the air; it’s a perfume whispering “let’s have sex” that’s wafting through all of New York’s galleries. This Saturday, that perfume travels to GIFs to Have Sex By, a screening of forty-plus GIFs, to be held at the closing reception for artist Faith Holland’s lube-filled (yes) exhibition, Technophilia. In advance of the closing, Faith Holland sent us several GIFs as a preview of Saturday’s screening. We’ll be writing about those GIFs in the days to CUM.
Today’s GIF selection was based on one simple measure: Does this GIF make me feel like having sex? (TMI—and maybe my serious job prospects are ruined—but this is a post about sex, which makes it HARD not to get personal.)
“PLUR” by Nicole Killian visualizes that heated, pulsing feeling of getting aroused, and then it’s over, blotted out with cum-like paint splashes. It lasts for just a couple of seconds. Maybe it’s not the best sex ever, but Killian does get that feeling right, of the orgasm, then the fluid that ends it all. Reminds me of hetero-college sex, when nobody knows what to do after the first splooge. Whatever—you live, you learn.
