- The town of Hampton, Virginia is in trouble with the Federal Government over its arts commission mailing promotional materials at a nonprofit rate instead of a government rate. This wouldn’t be particularly interesting except for the fact that local artist Elizabeth Greene received a $50,800 settlement in exchange for blowing the whistle on this scandal. - The National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall won’t open until 2016, way behind schedule. In the mean time, excerpts from the museum’s permanent collection will be on display at the National Museum of American History. [Washington Post]
- Will The Prado surrender its famed Hieronymus Bosch? In the words of José Pedro Pérez-Llorca, chairman of the museum’s board: “wait until hell freezes over.” The painting, and other pieces in the museum’s collection, are technically property of the Spanish Royal Family. Now that the new Museum of Royal Collections is set to open in Madrid, artwork with a kingly provenance could be plucked from museums across the country to be housed under one roof. - And in a different kind of museum turf war, everyone hates the Frick Collection’s expansion plans. Artists including Jeff Koons, Frank Stella, and Cindy Sherman have banded together to protest the project, which would swap the Upper East Side museum’s beloved gardens for a 106’ tower. [Vulture]
