Elizabeth Zans, Journey to the New World, Oil on Wood. 24 x 48 inches.

Although no literal narrative exists about the life and rein of Queen Elizabeth I, Elizabeth Zans’ paintings clearly draw inspiration from that subject matter.   The objects depicted in many of these works references those of the 15oos, and the suggestion of bounty often attributed to Elizabeth I also plays a dominant role.   A welcome reprise to the ever popular theme of the falling American Empire, these lush paintings offer a look into the fashion and riches of the Kingdom of England.

Artist Biography

Originally from Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains, Elizabeth Zans currently lives and works in New York. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Tyler School of Art, where she received an MFA while living in Rome. Elizabeth has received fellowships from The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and La Friche Belle du Mai in Marseille, France.

Elizabeth’s painting is rich in color, content and narrative!
“journey” is a non-specific term -here it could mean to or from a bountiful land or maybe away from a looted ship-a quest or a pirates dream. The “loot” or “bounty” floats out of the frame placing us in the jeweled wake of the ships-an adventure of a painting and yes-refreshingly lush!
