Art blog – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Art Blogs now have an entry on Wikipedia, though the field of New Media is unrepresented. Rhizome, Eyebeam and Tom Moody could be added. Via: Two Coats of Paint, C-Monster and Art To Go

Thanks for the shout out for the Wiki “Art blog” project. The Wiki admins and contributors are in the middle of a discussion about “notabilty” that bloggers might be interested in, and should definitely take part. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Art_blog

Also, anyone can contribute to the project by writing new pages for bloggers and their blogs, just make sure to write in the style of an encyclopedia (no opinion, just facts), and include references to back up all factual statements. And don’t copy and paste from the blog itself–they will delete the pages. Thanks.

It is better to write a bio article than an article about the blog itself. Your article for Two Coats of Paint looks more like a bio. You stand a better chance of having the article survive a deletion debate if it is a bio.

Look up Alexa rank also. If the blogs Alexa rank is near 100,000 or past 100,000 people may consider the author notable due to the popularity of the blog.

Another tip. Just because the art blogger has written for notable publications does not mean his or her blog is notable in the eyes of Wikipedia. What you need to find are notable sites, including art magazine sites, that have mentioned her and her blog on their own blog entries or in articles.

Wikipedia is hard on writers in general. There have been very notable writers from the New York Times removed for no apparent reason.

Another thing I would be careful with is the use of Culture Pundits. Best to have an article about CP on Wikipedia before mentioning them. Most wiki editors will see that as petty promotion for CP and the blog associated with CP.

Some will have the attitude that any blogger that makes a profit off of the blog they maintain should not be mentioned on Wikipedia. So in that sense they may use CP against you.

Keep at it and remember that the founder of Wikipedia has violated his own rules in the past.
