It was only yesterday I exclaimed “PLEASE, NO MORE PIZZA ART!” The same brand of ironic kitsch can only be funny for so long, right? Regardless, this week’s Best Link Ever, Xavier Barrade’s peopleinpizzaslicecostumesbecomingpizzas.com, weaseled its way into AFC’s favor whether or not it’s actually considered art. Pretty self-explanatory (or one-linery?), the site mimics the structure of many humorous net art site-cum-internet memes such as badpaintingsofbarackobama.com, gothsinhotweather, or awkwardfamilyphotos.com. Congratulations peopleinpizzaslicecostumesbecomingpizzas.com, we look forward to many more slices from you.

Best Link Ever is a weekly column posted on Fridays culling the best gems of the Internet, maintained by AFC Associate Editor Karen Archey.

How is peopleinpizzaslicecostumesbecomingpizzas.com like awkwardfamilyphotos.com or other blogs that collect weird found images? Sure, in this web page Xavier Barrade gathers funny photos, but he doesn’t stop there. He alters them to reconstruct their ideal context, but runs into a logical fallacy along the way. A pizza slice always comes from a pizza, so does a person in a pizza-slice costume comes from a pizza of people in pizza-slice costumes? No, and that’s where the laughs come in.

This reminds me more of Nasty Nets humor than any of the examples that you mention, Karen. Here’s a recent post I would say is similar:

Hi Brian,

While I appreciate the distinction mentioned here, I was referring to the relationship that a site’s title bears to its content. As stated in the post, all of these straightforwardly describe their content in a one-linery fashion. They do all vary in terms of content, but a Best Link Ever post isn’t the place to expound on this.
