Pierce Goldberg, son of famed art historian Roselee Goldberg, shot the above film capturing curators Fancesco Bonami and Gary Carrion-Murayari orating the names of this year’s Whitney Biennial artists. Welcome to the age of viral PR performance art!
I don’t have much time to write today, but I’ll note that I’ve seen a few grumblings over Twitter and Facebook about the dated nature of some of these artists. I’m not bothered by that — the list looks more impressive than in previous years. Still life painter Lesley Vance probably represents the greatest non-sequitor in the show, though it does seem as though the curators reserve a spot for traditional painting every cycle. Painter Robert Bechtle looked out of place in 2008 too.

I love it! Too funny. Maybe someday I can have my name solemnly intoned by a curator just before the elevator doors shut…
Plus, Storm Tharp: HOORAY!
