Dave Harper’s off sick today, so readers will be stuck reading me in his stead. As it turns out, Harpers’s pick is exactly what mine would have been for the week even if it’s a little less linky than usual: Tiny Furniture’s film debut at BAM tonight. Directed, written and starring Lena Dunham (of the Delusional Downtown Divas), the film documents the life of a 22 year old in transition. She returns home to live with her artist mom, played by Dunham’s actual mother Laurie Simmons, and deals with a dying hamster and a boyfriend who’s left her to find himself at Burning Man. Sounds like your typically early twenty something angst. Sign me up!

finding oneself at burning man?? yes, sounds delusional to me. one can find many freaks, but presumably one would know they're a freak prior to a requisite burning man attendance to discover one's manna. yes, sounds appropriately 21st century delusional — did you read the post script in 1999?? thanx. have a beautiful weekend.

this film is everything I hate about independent cinema today. A highly privileged girl from a well connected art family(Jerry Saltz was at the opening)gets to make a self indulgent film poking fun and stereotyping everything she comes across. She does not go beyong the surface of anything or anyone of her characters( They are all stereotypes) and everyline sounds like a hipster version of Dawsons Creek. One liners that go beyond the surface. I am happy that she has seen Todd Solondz filma and can make second rate versions but it just isn't good enough.
