Tumblr’s recent outage is a good reminder why Facebook has an edge over other sites. Facebook never goes down, nor Google, nor The New York Times. All company’s have eventually suffer from hacking or errors regardless of size, but never rarely having down time gives the impression that they are too important to fail. This weekend Tumblr lost its chance to join those ranks.
Update: @getradified reminds me facebook went down a couple months ago. Neither this, nor google’s issues about a year were as serious, but it’s worth mentioning.

Are you suggesting Google and Facebook, when still very young companies (as Tumblr is now) and contending with the challenges of exponential growth, never experienced growing pains and went down temporarily? Absolutely not.
As for NYT, already a huge institution by the time it created an online presence, it could certainly afford to develop immediately an elaborate infrastructure to support its traffic, but it surely hasn’t done so without intermittent issues.
If the sole measure of importance for a website is whether it faces developmental issues, then I’m sure walmart.com is far more important than other smaller yet far more interesting web outfits. Luckily many others don’t share your inane opinion, an opinion altogether quite sad since so many of your other opinions are informed and persuasive.
I bet tumblr being down & the lack of good internet was killing some people
Tumblr is down every other day for shorter periods of time and users are pretty used to it already (but of course still annoyed). But this one was a record in their history it seems (plus there are rumors it was part of the tumblr 4chan cold war).
Many videos on youtube document the impact on the users including songs like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOjyrvtHc9I / collages like this one: http://jaakkop.tumblr.com/post/2131226709/adoration-2010 / or (my own) tumblr: http://thisispast.tumblr.com or pages like: http://whentumblrisdown.com
oh no, i don’t lile it. I hope just one this time not the other times.
I had just redesigned my website — with links to my various projects, each on its own Tumblr — and sent out some emails about it. Then Tumblr went down for 24+ hours. Gah! I actually really do like the way Tumblr is set up, and it’s very easy for me to update my galleries, but damn. I’ll need to redesign again and put more of my work on my actual site, since I can’t depend on Tumblr all the time. Still, it’s free — so I’m not complaining too much.
Good job man..!!! You are really talented…and your site is very informative. Thankshttp://blogbudaqdegil.blogspot.com/2013/02/eser-unlimited-power-bank.html
