What are the names and locations of all the major art fairs launching this week? Have I got a list for readers.
ADAA The Art Show: Park Avenue Armory Park Avenue at 67th Street March 2nd to 6th, 2011 Wednesday March 2nd to Saturday March 5th; noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday March 6th; noon to 6:00 p.m.
Run by The Art Dealers Association of America, (more commonly known as the ADAA), this fair probably means more to dealers than it does viewers. Only members can participate, and it’s not exactly easy to become one. Founded in 1962, the organization promotes the highest standards of connoisseurship, scholarship and ethical practice within the profession. Notably, Larry Gagosian still has not received an invitation to this group. Expect to see high quality secondary market art in a stodgy environment. My picks: Peter Blum Gallery, Marianne Boesky Gallery, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, Marian Goodman Gallery, D’Amelio Terras, Tibor de Nagy Gallery, L&M Arts, Luhring Augustine, and David Zwirner Gallery.
The Armory Fair: Piers 92 & 94,12th Ave at 55th Street March 3rd to 6th, 2011 Thursday March 3rd to Saturday March 5th; noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday March 6th; noon to 7:00 p.m
The biggest New York contemporary art fair, and also the most consistently disappointing by international standards. The lighting is bad, the floor plan is hard to navigate, the art is consistently average, and for the last two years sales have been less than awesome (in their defense, though, there has been a recession). Booths to look forward to: Andrew Edlin Gallery, CANADA, Corkin Gallery, CRG, Hauser & Wirth, Horton Gallery, Sean Kelly Gallery, Leo Keonig Gallery, Yvon Lambert, Yossi Milo Gallery, Seventeen Gallery, and White Cube (for the laughs).
The Independent: 548 W 22nd St, New York, NY 10011, March 3rd to 6th, 2011 Thursday March 3, 4 — 9pm, Friday March 4, 11am — 8pm, Saturday March 5, 11am — 8pm, Sunday March 6, 12 — 4pm
Last year’s new art fair that really looked a lot like other fairs, just with fewer walls and better contemporary art. I’m looking forward to looking at: Bortolomi Gallery, Gavin Brown Enterprises, Elizabeth Dee Gallery*, Anton Kern Gallery, Andrew Kreps, Joann Konig*, Sutton Lane, Wallspace*, and White Columns. (Those galleries with asterisks exhibited last year at the Armory fair, and are not returning this year).
VOLTA: 7 West 34th Street 11th floor New York, NY 10001 March 3rd to 6th, 2011 Thursday March 3rd; 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday March 4th to Sunday March 6th; 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Armory’s sister fair, held in an office space on 35th Street. Their exhibitor list is looking very thin this year, but we like Sue Scott Gallery. Mixed Greens Gallery moves to VOLTA from Pulse.
Pulse: 125 W 18th Street New York, NY 10011 March 3rd to 6th, 2011 Thursday March 3rd; 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday March 4th & Saturday March 5th; noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday March 6th; noon to 5:00 p.m.
Pulse has lost a few of the larger galleries they worked with only two or three years ago, but there’s still a number worth going to see. In particular, we’re excited about visiting Baer Ridgeway, a consistently strong NADA gallery. Also, Mark Moore Gallery, Morgan Lehman and Jen Bekman Gallery. 20×200, a Jen Bekman project, will be sponsoring the upcoming fair coverage both here and at Hyperallergic, so look forward to A LOT of posting on our part.
Moving Image Fair: 269 11th Avenue, New York, NY 10001, March 3rd to 6th, 2011, Thursday March 3rd to Saturday March 5th; 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 6th, 2011; 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Opening Reception Thursday March 3rd; 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The new video art fair organized in less than two months by Winkleman gallery. I spoke to Ed Winkleman about the fair last week and will publishing the fruits of that conversation tomorrow. An impressive list of participants: Elizabeth Dee Gallery, Invisible Exports, The Pace Gallery, PPOW Gallery, James Cohan Gallery.
UPDATE: The Dependent Fair: Sheraton Hotel, 160 West 25th, New York, NY, 10001, Friday, March 4th, 4-9 pm.
Now, this looks great: A hit and run style fair. I like all of the participants too: Audio Visual Arts, Cleopatra’s, Dispatch, Empty Room, EvilFreaks, KS Art, New York Fine Arts, Paradise, Ramiken Crucible, Recess, Reference, Silvershed, Soloway, Specific Object, and 2-up. Expect to see me there.
Scope: 320 West Street New York, NY 10013 March 3rd to 6th, 2011 Thursday March 3rd to Saturday March 5th; noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday March 6th; noon to 7:00 p.m.
We’re hoping there will be fewer boob and scissor sculptures this year. I believe Stephanie Davidson will be selling aspirin at the fair in the event that that work has not yet gone out of vogue.
Auxiliary fairs: Red Dot, Fountain fair (corrected link – the website has been updated recently, contrary to my initial belief), Verge Art Fair, Pool art fair.
Got a little spare time? Play the lottery and see if you get lucky. Every once and a while a good work shows up at these fairs.

Fountain has updated their website, you’re just linking to an archived page. If you go to the front page, there’s plenty of new material.

In the Sheraton Hotel.

Thanks for this. The first google result is for their 2007 fair, and the archived fairs on that page only list 2006. I updated the post.
Oooh. This looks good.
You have the link to the 2007 Fountain Fair – here’s the updated version:

That link was updated last night. Should be fine now.
Thanks! Great list and saving a lot of time not googling each fair individually….
Thanks for this- I haven’t been to all the main fairs NYC holds before and I’m trying to get to some new ones like the Independent.
You should add ARMORY WEEK ART BAZAAR (March 1-13) in Chelsea, 175 7th Ave @W.20th St – a great place to discover new and unrepresented talent!
