Longtime readers of Art F City will know we have a soft spot for Buffalo. We reviewed their art fair, Echo. We’ve espoused our love for the Albright Knox Gallery. And as we have said before, this city is never short on nerves and steel. So when we learned of the WNY Book Arts Center Kickstarter campaign, we knew we needed to support it.
The WNYBAC does everything every great community arts center should; there’s afterschool classes, workshops for artists, exhibitions, and a shop with a long list of pressers, rollers, and something called a trim-o-saw. And what’s best of all (and most refreshing), their focus is entirely on the making, not on the money.
So they need your help. Their kickstarter, initially aimed to raise a modest $2500 for a set of metal type, has surpassed this goal but they still need more to get to their final goal of $4000, which they will use to refurbish their shop. Plus, you get a massively good deal at the $300 donation level: A custom event poster created for you by WNYBAC’s founder Richard Kegler. This is an insanely generous offer; we bought the poster.
There are only four more days in WNY Book Arts Center Kickstarter campaign, so the time to pledge is now. Get the deal, or throw in a few bucks for one of their unique letterpress prints. There’s an 8.5×11 letterpress on stonehenge paper for 20 bucks with your name on it.
