- I love, love, love that Paul Slocum put together a catalogue for Rhizome on “surf clubs, art clubs, and related sites”. Each term is defined: Surf Club = group artist blogs interested internet culture and aesthetics. Art Club = artist group blogs that explore digital illustration, collage, and connections between works of non-internet art. Related Sites= other websites that have similar artistic content but don’t use blogs and may not be run by artists. The catalogue includes pretty much everything you’d want to know about the clubs—even screenshots. [Rhizome]
- Speaking of surfing, the duration of his one month residency at Schlosspost, one time surf club member Travis Hallenback will give up his seven favorite sites; Google, Wikipedia, Tumblr, Twitter, Pinboard, Facebook, YouTube, and Netflix. Prior to the residency, he researched web portals and directories and locate search engines not based on Google results. He settled for Bing. [Schlosspost]
- 85 percent of galleries said they were always on the look out for new artists according to a survey run by Artslant. An article on how to find representation. [Artslant]
- The “Panama Papers” will soon lift the veil of secrecy that has covered the doings of the world’s economic elite. That means we’ll soon learn who’s hiding their money in art investments. Russian magnate Dmitry Rybolovlev may be just one of many. [Artnet]
- The annals of a voyeur. Foos bought a motel so he could watch his guests have sex. He got more than he bargained for. Put a bit of time aside for this – it’s hard to put down. [The New Yorker]
- New York City lawmakers are trying to reintroduce ‘mansion tax’ to support city programs focused on youth, and immigrant services. Let’s hope this passes. [The Wall Street Journal]
