Gavin Brown’s Enterprise is moving to Harlem. Wow! What changes will this art gallery’s move signal for the neighborhood? Perhaps not too many as Gavin Brown already lives in Harlem—now he’s moving his business closer to home. The location of the move will be 461 W. 126th Street, a building listed on Chashama’s website as being home to 42 artist workspaces. What will happen to those studios when GBE moves in? There are so many factual inaccuracies in this Bloomberg feature on how dealers, collectors, and artists use Instagram it’s hard to know where to begin. But surely the most hilariously blooper of the whole segment is the running slideshow of Instagrams taken by “Kadar Radar,” artist Kadar Brock, which includes images of art and his gaming miniatures from a D&D knockoff game called Pathfinder. Slideshow: The Best and Worst at Art Toronto

Over the course of the last two days, we’ve repeatedly been asked how we liked Art Toronto. Yesterday we reported on the organization and business of the fair, which is remarkable mostly for its utter lack of ambition. We didn’t like that. Today, we’ve put together a slideshow to give readers a better sense of what’s at the fair. We didn’t like that either. And from what we hear, there’s a lot missing, too! Jessica Bradley’s absence this year was just one established gallery of many who was repeatedly mourned while we were on site.

Long story short, there’s not a hell of a lot worth looking at. We collected the best (and worst) of it for you regardless though, because that’s just how we roll. Brace yourself for images and commentary after the jump.

A Quiet Opening Night for Art Toronto

The crowds were noticeably thinner at this year’s Art Toronto opening according to many attendees, though fair attendance numbers showed an slight increase (2100 last year, and 2200 this year). This perception may have to do with the fair’s downsize; roughly 11 percent (from 128 exhibitors last year to 114 this year, including three non-profit spaces). Last night, a section of the Metrocenter was closed off, and two rows of booths that might normally fill that space were absent.

Rich artist foundations are being sued. Lots of opportunity for abuse—three artists foundations are currently embroiled in lawsuits—but also lots of opportunity. Almost half of the 300 artist-endowed foundations in the U.S. were formed between 1996 and 2005 and assets more than tripled during that time.
