Ai Weiwei Released on Bail

This just in via Hyperallergic: Ai Weiwei has been released on bail. According to xinhuanet.com Ai’s “good attitude in confessing his crimes as well as a chronic disease he suffers from,” was offered as rationale for the decision. Ai will also pay the taxes the government claims he owes.

There aren’t too many institutions here who have changed their programming as a result of the Chinese government’s actions, but Anish Kapoor did reject an offer to show his work from the National Museum of China in Beijing in protest. Perhaps that will change now that Ai Weiwei has been released?
