name one Paul-Émile Borduas painting as good as dekooning’s “‘painting’ 1948”.  Borduas is not bad but is completely tame in comparison.
You’re also gonna need a very good argument to call braque a relatively poor painter. He’s not my favorite  either but has some powerhouse works. I guess you just wanted to put some zingers in the bylines.

There isn’t a good reproduction on the net, but I think there are few masterpieces in existence that rival Borduas SeaGull, 1958. Certainly not DeKooning’s black paintings, which actually really bother me. They are flat to a point of monotony.Borduas’ painting engages space in a much more compelling way. Maybe it’s just taste — I’d agree that painting 1948 is pretty good in that genre — but DeKooning wears me out. Why do so many of his paintings have to be so overstated?

As for Braque, relative to Picasso he was a poor painter. Smith acknowledges this at the end of her review, but I just don’t think he’s worth the fuss. As I mentioned in the links though, I haven’t seen the show, so if that’s a zinger, it’s one couched in cavet.
