Well, that was short-lived. The micro-trend of oversize clothing, which we last saw in Miami, lasted less than a fair cycle before being turned over. A look at the Armory reveals only regular-size clothing as a focus for artists—typically, those clothes have been bronzed. Mickalene Thomas’s bronzed Crocs top our list for their bland ridiculousness. Oddly enough, there is a precedent to this work—if that’s even what you’d call it. Michel François also used the high-brow material of bronze to render low-brow objects when he produced “Arbre a Chips,” a tree made of bronze Pringle leaves. This was shown at the Armory in 2007 with Thomas Dane Gallery. Ponder that, if you dare.
