Thanks, great piece. Just curious, did you visit any actual “open studios”? Or are the artists already getting pushed out of the neighborhood in favor of galleries?

I did! But I chose to focus this post on artist run spaces (Norte Maar being the exception). Local artists who show local artists isn’t evidence that Bushwick artists aren’t getting enough attention.

Thanks for your response, Paddy. I wasn’t really talking about attention, tho, I was just wondering if fewer artists can afford studios in Bushwick these days, thus the focus on galleries and (branded) events. Just three years ago, the focus was completely on visiting artists’ studios, which was really fun and stimulating. If that focus changes, it becomes just another “art walk”, which would be sad.

OooOoooh. Yes, in my experience there were fewer artist studios to visit, though the observation feels a little more anecdotal than I’d like. The event is so huge you never know what you’re missing.

I agree- great write up, thanks Paddy! MiamiDanny- if you’re interested in reading about the artist studios, I only went to see those during BOS and wrote about them in my blog: http://www.artwirth.com.
